FREQUENTLY ASKED

Your questions, our answers

Is the service really free?
Yes, free for individuals. The request and introduction are free and non-binding. Vert.lu is paid by the listed companies.
How fast will I receive quotes?
On average within 48 working hours. Interested craftsmen contact you directly.
How many companies will contact me?
It depends on the trade, the area and the season. We pass the request to matching companies that have access to quote requests, and those available get in touch. We do not guarantee a number of replies.
Am I required to accept a quote?
No, you remain free to compare, negotiate and decline. No obligation.
How are craftsmen selected?
Listed companies are registered with the Chambre des Métiers and authorised to trade in Luxembourg.
Is a site visit necessary?
For most works, yes. Measurements, the condition of the substrate, access and technical constraints determine the price; a figure given without a visit stays indicative.
What if nobody answers?
Resend the request with a more flexible timeframe, more detail and photos, or contact companies directly from the directory. Response times lengthen in busy periods.
Can I request quotes for several works at once?
Yes, but split them when different trades are involved. One request per trade produces comparable quotes and avoids a company pricing items outside its scope.
Requesting quotes on vert.lu: how it works

What the quote request covers

The form is for homeowners and tenants planning works on a home in Luxembourg: heating and heat pumps, photovoltaics and batteries, charging points, insulation, roofing and facades, doors, windows and conservatories, joinery, kitchens, bathrooms and sanitary work, floor and wall coverings, electrical work and security, structural work and renovation, gardens and outdoor areas, and smaller maintenance jobs.

Describe the project, not the technical solution. If you are torn between two options, say so: the companies you consult will tell you what is feasible in your building and on what conditions. A clear request is worth more than a precise but mistaken one.

What to prepare before filling in the form

Gather the details that save a second round of questions: type of dwelling (house, flat, co-owned building), approximate year of construction, the surface concerned, the current state of the installation or substrate, your preferred timing and any access constraints. Two or three photos, one from a distance and one close up, say more than several paragraphs.

If you know your annual energy consumption, add it: it drives the sizing of a heat pump, a photovoltaic system or a battery. In a co-owned building, note whether a decision of the owners' meeting is required, as this changes the timeline and sometimes the contact person.

What happens after you send it

Your request is matched with the companies in our directory whose trade and service area fit the project. Those available contact you to clarify the need and, in most cases, to arrange a site visit: a dependable quote for structural work is not produced remotely.

The service is free of charge and non-binding for private individuals. You are never required to accept an offer. If nobody replies, the companies in that trade are usually fully booked for the period: resend the request with a more flexible timeframe, or widen the area.

Comparing the quotes you receive

Compare identical scopes only. A usable quote names materials and equipment, states quantities and surfaces, lists ancillary work (scaffolding, waste removal, making good), specifies which administrative steps are included, the lead time, the warranties, the payment schedule and the VAT regime applied.

A markedly lower price is almost always explained by a missing item. Ask for the difference in writing before you commit, and be wary of discounts valid only on the day of the visit and of large deposits requested before any technical assessment.

Subsidies and supported works

Part of the energy improvement work falls under the Klimabonus Wunnen, the national housing support scheme which replaced the former PRIMe House programme in 2022. Some steps must be completed before work starts, and the work must be carried out by an authorised company: tell the company at the quote stage if you intend to apply. The applicable amounts and conditions are published on guichet.lu, and Klima-Agence provides free independent advice.

Your data

The information you send is used to match your project with suitable companies; it is not resold for advertising. You can ask us to correct or delete your request at any time through the contact page.

Common mistakes in a works request

The first mistake is to describe a solution rather than a problem. Writing “I want a heat pump of this output” steers the pricing towards a choice nobody has verified in your building. Stating the heated surface, the state of the insulation, the type of emitters and your current energy bill lets the company propose the correct sizing and justify its calculation.

The second mistake is an unrealistic deadline. Building trades work with order books filled several weeks ahead and with equipment lead times that vary by product. A request presented as urgent without genuine slack reduces the number of companies able to answer and pushes prices up.

The third mistake is comparing quotes that do not cover the same content, then negotiating on the total. Negotiate line by line: the brand of a piece of equipment, the thickness of an insulant, the number of fixing points or the extent of making good weigh more on the outcome than a few per cent off the overall figure.

Finally, never sign on the basis of a verbal agreement. A dated quote signed by both parties, stating quantities, lead times, warranties and the payment schedule, is your only protection if the site goes wrong.

The most common requests, trade by trade

Heating: replacing an oil or gas boiler with a heat pump, annual servicing, replacing radiators, installing underfloor heating during a deep renovation. The decisive point is the flow temperature your emitters require: it determines the type of machine and its real efficiency.

Photovoltaics and batteries: installation on a pitched or flat roof, adding storage to an existing system, replacing an inverter. Sizing starts from your annual consumption and your daily profile, not from the free roof area.

Insulation, roofing and facades: insulating the roof or the attic floor, external wall insulation, renewing a roof covering, treating thermal bridges and water ingress. These works are planned together: renewing a roof without insulating it at the same time means paying for the scaffolding twice.

Joinery, doors and windows: replacing window units, conservatories, staircases, fitted cupboards, internal and external doors. Lead times depend mostly on manufacturing, which is often longer than installation.

Electrical work and security: bringing an old installation up to standard, replacing a distribution board, adding circuits for a charging point or a heat pump, smoke detectors, alarms and access control. Work on the installation belongs to an authorised professional, and commissioning requires a conformity check.

Kitchens, bathrooms and coverings: full renovation of a wet room, replacing a bath with a shower, tiling, wood flooring, painting. The schedule depends on the order of the trades, and that is usually where the most expensive weeks are lost.
